Renee Marriott, a 42-year-old woman often isolated from the community because of her disability, reduced her mother to tears when she took to the stage in Ngā Tāngata Manawa o te Tai-tonga Kapa Haka Festival in Christchurch.
ANZ is making its banking services accessible to more customers by creating easy-to-read documents. Earlier this year the bank sent a team to an IHC Easy Read training session run in Wellington by the Council for Intellectual Disability in New South Wales.
Christchurch woman Linda Hider turned 70 in June, and she hopes to live for much longer. Linda is raising two of her grandchildren – her son’s 12-year-old boy and 11-year-old daughter – and wants to be there for as long as they need her.

Dr Terry Caseley devoted his career to making sure people with intellectual disabilities were given the chance to live their best lives. The former President of IHC and influential Christchurch paediatrician died in Christchurch on 18 May 2023, at the age of 89.
