Blenheim to host Take a Moment with us exhibition
An IHC travelling exhibition that provides insight into the lives of people with an intellectual disability opens to the public on Thursday 20 October at the ASB Theatre in Blenheim.
Take a moment with us, which will be officially opened on Wednesday 19 October, is a free multimedia experience that showcases the dreams, loneliness, talents and sadness of people with an intellectual disability.
The exhibition uses photographs by Christchurch photographer Bridgit Anderson and video shot and edited by Auckland video maker Sam Morrison to explore how the lives of people with intellectual disability are not so different from others in the community.
Among those featured in the exhibition are Sue Wei Lee, who dreams of becoming a famous actor and travelling the world, and Jack Moskowitz, who has achieved his goal of getting a gardening job and is now working on living independently.
Scheduled alongside the exhibition are events that create opportunities to share information and connections within the community. These events help relationships to develop among families, self-advocates, community organisations, local government and other key groups within the community.
A series of workshops, forums and seminars will be delivered by IHC, including information about self-advocacy, children's rights, education, health and volunteering.
The exhibition runs from Thursday 20 October to Wednesday 30 November at the ASB Theatre, Blenheim.
