IHC is 75 years old!
IHC is 75 years old!
On 25 October 1949 a group of people met in Wellington to form an Association. These 22 people had one thing in common – all were parents of children with intellectual disabilities. They were determined to improve conditions for their children.
Within a month of that first meeting, the IHC movement in New Zealand began its long fight for change, for acceptance, and for a better life for people with intellectual disability.
IHC is an icon of New Zealand with a 75-year history of advocates standing up for themselves and for others on the international stage, at parliament and communities and school yards in every corner of the country.
As we celebrate, we acknowledge all those past and present who lead and support to make a difference every day.
