Congratulations to Michael Holdsworth – MNZM
IHC is paying tribute to Michael Holdsworth on his recognition in the Queen’s Birthday New Zealand Honours.
Michael, now member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, has been recognised for his services to Special Olympics.
Michael says he is very honoured.
“With all the years of Special Olympics it has been the best thing of my sport,” he says.
Michael has been involved with Special Olympics for 32 years, including recently as a Global Ambassador.
He has also worked for IHC in the library for almost 27 years.
IHC Group Chief Executive Ralph Jones says Michael has always been a committed sportsman, competing at high levels in swimming and skiing here and overseas.
But this award recognises his role in supporting and leading others to participate and achieve.
“My warmest congratulations to Michael from us all,” says Ralph.
This year’s Queen’s Birthday New Zealand Honours also recognises many others who have made extraordinary contributions to people with disabilities including Anne Hawker, Richard Benge, Heather Lear, Sally Jackson and David Matthews.
“Ours is a sector full of people who go above and beyond to improve the lives of people with disabilities and at IHC we are proud to know and work alongside them.
