Egyptian Mystery
SOLD
Overall forms and themes in this work were dictated by the rich burnt amber colour which I chose to dominate the work. For me, this colour references not just Egyptian art, but also, various forms of Indigenous art around the world. The creature appearing in the lefthand panel, neither human nor beast, is adorned by a cloak of some type. The geometric form sitting upon its head recalls a crown which might be worn by an Egyptian or an otherwise indigenous God. The figure in the central panel is most definitely Egyptian. This a product of my subconscious mind, just materialised as I painted; I suspect because of the burnt amber background, and to this extent, this part of the work really painted itself. The abstract forms in the right hand also painted themselves. The flowers are deliberate in that they link to the suggested vase at the bottom. They also represent an attempt to introduce nature into a work otherwise devoid of such.
Symone
SOLD
Having no autonomous use of her hands, Sarah employs a range of techniques, including a head pointer and the movement of her whole body to create a variety of marks. Her work delights in its complexity, expression and mood. Sarah has developed into a confident and dynamic artist, capable of exhibiting works and capturing audiences in the wider Auckland art scene. Sarah was inspired by the show Ru Paul’s Drag Race during the creation of a series of work - one being “Symone”. The contestants on the show resonated with Sarah as the contestants fought adversity through creativity, expressing themselves in the art they created. “Symone” is typical of Sarah’s expressive bold style, utilizing a range of media to create texture, tone and emotional and physical impact.
NZ Fishes
SOLD
I got the picture out of a book. I was inspired by the fish in the oceans surrounding NZ. The fish looked familiar and this gave me some ideas on how I was going to paint them. The fish are very colourful. I usually enjoy painting in acrylics in series inspired by film stars and pop culture, dolls, architecture and other artists’ work. I like painting because it keeps me busy.
A Memory of Father Land
SOLD
The memory of my father and my mother who worked hard in our family farm back in Thailand. When I was young I went to the farm on Saturdays and Sundays. I sat and ate, watching my father and also my mother working. My father taught me about farming. This continues to my present day with my garden and home studio. My Mother is holding white flowers to take to the Buddhist temple. I’m so impressed, I’m so proud to look back at my family memory story.
