IDEA Services provides support for people with an intellectual disability so they can live, learn, work and enjoy life as part of the community. IDEA Services provides vocational and day services, accommodation and specialist services.
We encourage and provide opportunities for talking with people their own age about where they want to live. Leaving home is a major change for all young people. Support and assistance with planning the move is essential. The plan should include where the person will call home in the future and their vocational aspirations.
IDEA Services works to uphold the IHC Mission.
Living in the Community
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) Article 19, states: “People have the right to live in the community with choices equal to others so they have:
- The opportunity to choose where and who they live with
- The support needed to make decisions
- Access to a range of in-home and community based supports
- Access to the same community services and facilities as others and these are responsive to their needs.”
